Expedition Itinerary
Day 1
The Expedition meets and starts at Augrabies Falls National Park. Dinner will be served at 19:00. Stop along the way at the Orange River Wine Cellars on route to Augrabies.
Day 2
The Namaqua 4x4 Eco-Trail starts today taking you down to the Gariep (Orange) River and then back into the mountains. Set up camp on the banks of the Gariep (Orange) River in this desert paradise.
Day 3
Enjoy a stunning and relaxed drive through some of the most breathtaking scenery South Africa has to offer. Pass Mt Hahn Romanberg and through pass Raman's drift then at Goodhouse meet up with the river once again for another evening camping next to South Africa's largest river.
Day 4
Continue on the Eco-trail for the morning exploring the river banks and mountain range on route to Aquacade campsite. Something to look forward to is a cold drink at the pub and a great campsite after a few days of roughing it.
Day 5
Spent the day relaxing next to the river or for those with a bit more adventurous spirit why not enjoy a day's river rafting down the Orange River.
Day 6
You enter the Richtersveld National Park and pass the barren Helskloof rural region before finding the remote villages of Eksteenfontien and Khubus. From Khubus the Ais-Ais Richtersveld Trans Frontier Park welcomes you.
Day 7
Explore the Richtersveld region today which is regarded as one of the world's richest succulent areas harbouring 30% of South Africa's succulent species. The most distinctive are the Quiver tree species and the legendary "halfmens". The park also has a small population of indigenous people, better known as Bushmen.
Day 8
Depart from this piece of paradise for the Gariep (Orange) River Estuary near the town of Alexander Bay. This estuary well known for its Pelicans, Flamingo's and adjoining wetland is declared a RAMSAR site. You continue along the west coast of South Africa and stop at the harbour to see the diamond boats that go out in the cold Atlantic Ocean in search for alluvial diamonds. You spend a comfortable evening at Springbok Lodge.
Day 9
Today you reluctantly say our last good-byes as the expedition heads back east to Gauteng.
Expedition Information
Expeditions are lead by a professional Land Rover Experience Instructor and a South African Overland Guide. The lead vehicle on the Expedition is a Land Rover with a full recovery kit. Personal 4 Wheel Drive vehicles are welcome, ie: non Land Rover Expedition vehicles.
