Battlefields Expedition: Day 1
The BP Garage in Vryheid is where the expedition starts. We convene at 12:30, install 2-way radios and meet up with our specialised Battlefields guide. He will then lead us and keep us enthralled with his rich knowledge of the area and all the interesting battles of the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer Wars that took place in the area.
As evening approaches we meander onto the comfortable Mtonjaneni Lodge, which will be our home for the next two nights.
Battlefields Expedition: Day 2
Today we make our way along some dirt roads and visit the “Battlefields” of years gone by that helped shape the boarders of KwaZulu Natal and South Africa. Along the way we visit the site of the Battle of Blood River, Piet Retief‘s grave, Dingaans village and delve into the rich culture of the Zulu people.
After another interesting and entertaining day we make our way back to the Lodge situated in the ‘Valley of the Kings’ for a relaxing evening under the big African star filled sky.
Battlefields Expedition: Day 3
The day gets underway with a sumptuous breakfast. With energy levels high and our minds full of historical facts we are set for the rest of the day to make our way back home. Exploring the splendid countryside and savouring a great historical weekend.
