Our shuttle transfers us all to Land Rover Experience Gerotek, where we are orientated with our vehicles, before hitting the road. We head north along the N1 past Polokwane, Dendron, Vivo and on to Alldays where we fill up and head off into the bush. Once we arrive at Venitia Limpopo Nature reserve, we make our way to the “Little Muck” lodge, our home for the next two evenings. We spend the afternoon enjoying a self-drive 4x4 game drive through the reserve around Little Muck, before enjoying a sundowner over this beautiful piece of Africa.
An introduction into the wild dog project will be presented after dinner. An early night is recommended as we have an early morning.
A very early start as we go out in search of the famed wild dogs, one of Africa’s most endangered large predators, some of the wild dogs are fitted with radio tracking collars so our chances of seeing them will be very good. After a morning filled with excitement, and interesting facts we return to “Little Muck” for brunch and a lazy afternoon. In the afternoon we move off to the Mapungubwe National park, firstly to the Tree-Tops hide and then the confluence of the Limpopo and the Shashe rivers, this will prove to be a beautiful backdrop for a sundowner.
We start the morning off with a visit to the world heritage site of Mapungubwe hill, where a far developed African civilisation prospered between 1200 and 1270 AD. The area was already inhabited by a growing Iron Age community from 900 AD and became rich through trade with faraway places like Egypt, India and China. This is the place where archaeologists excavated the famous golden rhino and other evidence of a wealthy African kingdom, this will be an extraordinarily interesting morning as well as with the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
On returning to camp we enjoy yet another sumptuous brunch. At around 11:00 we start we hit the road to Pontdrift border post and into Botswana. At Pontdrift there is no bridge over the Limpopo so this will require a serious river crossing just to get into Botswana. Once through the border we will enjoy an extended game drive through some of the most beautiful scenery as well as looking out for some of the “Big 5”.
We book into the beautiful Musth tented camp at on the banks of the Limpopo River, before climbing into our open game drive vehicle searching for great game sightings. We sit around our camp fire tonight listening to the night sounds of the African bush.
An early start as we go an interesting game walk, to learn more about the smaller things that make “Mother Nature” so special. After working up an appetite we return to camp for a relaxing afternoon, spend some time reading a book, doing some birding or just enjoying a siesta.
In the late afternoon we enjoy another game drive on the open game drive vehicle, before returning to camp for our last evening together around the camp fire
After another great bush breakfast we hit the road south traveling the length of the Tuli Block before crossing back into South Africa at Martinsdrift. We then make our way back to Land Rover Experience Gerotek.
