We all get together at O.R. Tambo international airport, where we meet and take our transfer Land Rover Experience Gerotek.
We then all get orientated with our Expedition vehicles and head off for the Botswana border. We book into our accommodation before kicking back and enjoying our first evening together.
An early start as we have a long road to cover for the day. Our first stop is the town of Letlhakane where we refuel and head off onto the vast Magadikgadi Pans. The Magadikgadi salt pans are the largest salt pans on earth and cover an area of 12 000km2. Tonight we sleep at Kubu Island. The drive along the Salt Pans is something you have never experienced speeding along at high speeds on a dirt surface smoother than any highway. However when they get wet the fun begins.
After a morning walk to experience a sunrise like no other we move off over Ntewe pan and on to the town of Gweta. Once we pass through Gweta we continue in a westerly direction to the Boteti River and our campsite at Xyga.
After an afternoon swim we sit back relax and enjoy the beauty of Africa.
After our bush chef treats us to an early breakfast we make our way into the Kopana community concession (with a challenging river crossing depending on water levels in the delta). Once over the river we climb into a Makoro for the day and silently traversing the channels that make up the Okavango Delta we are able to getting up close and personal with some of Africa’s “BIG 5”. We return to camp where we comfortably retire for the night after an exciting day in the Okavango Delta.
After re-stocking and refuelling in Maun we make our way into the Okavango Delta. Our journey takes us onto the Kwai community concession. We set up camp under large Camel thorn trees on the banks of the Kwai River.
An afternoon game drive gives us the opportunity of getting that perfect shot.
We pass into dreamland tonight listening intently for the roar of the Delta lion.
A short morning walk as well as a game drive will be the order of the day. The rest of the day will be spent relaxing in this beautiful part of Africa.
We reluctantly say good bye to this beautiful piece of Africa and follow the road North over the Magwikhwe sand ridge. These long stretches of thick sand will provide for lots of driving fun making our way into the famous Savute area. The Savute is an African haven which thrives with wildlife and impressive African sunsets. We have sundowners alongside the Savute waterhole enjoying the African ambiance.
Tonight we sit around the fire while listening intently for the chuckles of a spotted hyena and the roar of the Savute Lions.
After a good night under a starry Africa sky we go on an early morning game drive in search of the elusive Savute Lions.
The afternoon will have much of the same with a game drive enjoying the abundance of wildlife both big and small taking in the best of Africa.
Our trek north continues as we pass out of the Savute area at Goha gate and onto Kasane. The afternoon/evening is filled with a sundowner boat cruise, which will provide some amazing photographic opportunities.
We will then spend the evening at the Chobe Safari Lodge.
Today we make way for the astonishing sight and sounds of Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is one of the 7 Natural wonders of the world. Crossing the border at Kazungula it is only a short drive to the town of Victoria Falls. We camp at the Victoria Falls rest camp. Victoria falls is Africa’s Adventure capital be it bungi jumping the Victoria Falls Bridge or flying like a fox over the Batoka gorge, there will be lots of fun and opportunities to take those memorable photos. For the more sedate there can be an afternoon boat cruise arranged to experience the beautiful Zambezi River.
A relaxing day in Africa’s adventure capital, maybe today you will tackle the mighty Zambezi with some white water rafting, or try the gorge swing. The mighty Victoria Falls fills us with awe and one begins to feel how Sir David Livingston felt when he first saw the splendour of the Victoria Falls or ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ (the Mist that Thunders).
We reluctantly say goodbye to Africa’s adventure capital and head back to the ferry at Kazungula. We travel South through Botswana down to Nata. We refuel in Nata and start our journey home.
We camp tonight at the Woodlands camp, feasting on another succulent African bush meal sitting around the bon fire enjoy our last evening together under the African sky.
An early start as we travel to the South African border past the towns of Lephalale and Modi-Molle before making our way back to Land Rover Experience Gerotek. Our shuttle will be waiting to take us back to OR Tambo international Airport.
